Threave Rovers (U17) vs Greystone Athletic U17's

February 7, 2016
Score: 3 - 9

Match Report

Terrible conditions for a game this morning at a gale force Kirkcudbright. The teams , however, served up a great game of football despite a hurricane.

It was the proverbial game of 2 halves, dictated by who profited from having the wind behind them. Threave won the toss and had storm force 9 in their favour. If ever there  was a day for keeping the ball on the deck it was today. Greystone were resolute at the back and as the half wore on they began to find spaces to exploit with Keir flashing some low crosses across goal. Greystone fell behind to a well struck  wind assisted shot from 30 yards which gave Ryan no chance in goals.

Greystone kept doing the right things and persevered with their passing game and pulled a goal back from a fine hooked shot from Liam.

Half-time Threave Rovers 1- 1 Greystone Athletic

A couple of substitutions with Ben replacing Connor and Tom replacing Duncan. Threave started the half well and defied the conditions to exert some pressure on the Greystone goal. Greystone regained their composure and put together some great passing combinations and goals started to come. Corey replaced Milo and Ross replaced Keir (one of these days you’ll get a penalty Keir), Greystone opened up a lead of 5-1 and then a bit of slackness crept in with some non-existent marking at a free kick and soon it was 5-3. This spurred Greystone on and again some high quality movement resulted in another 4 goals. A really enjoyable game well handled by John Coyle, many thanks to Alistair and Jim for their hospitality.
