A good result today against a previously unbeaten Annan Athletic side.
The first half started with Annan probably edging the early exchanges without creating any clear cut chances. Greystone gradually began to dominate possession and the pressure mounted on the Annan goal. A series of chances were being created when we moved the ball quickly with combination play in the final third.
The first was scored by Keenan Moss cutting in from the left, this was quickly followed by goals from Liam Robertson and Ross Young and a further goal from Keenan. Greystone were getting some joy using the width with Keenan and the excellent Keir Hunter on the right putting in some threatening crosses.
Annan looked dangerous from set pieces, in particular, and when a free kick was sent in from the left side we didn’t track their runners it resulted in a relatively simple header finding the net on the stroke of half time.
Half time Greystone Athletic 4 Annan Athletic 1
Thomas Wright replaced Milo Bown at the start of the second half. It began with Annan taking the initiative buoyed by their goal at the end of the first half. Although there was some pressure on our defence Brodie McKerlie, Josh Gilston and Struan Callander were playing well preventing obvious goal scoring opportunities. Callum then netted with an quick route 1 counter attack- kick out from Ross Bell, flick on from Liam and first time finish from Callum ! He was then promptly substituted!! Niall Holden and Connor Gibson replaced Owen Abraham and Callum in a bid to freshen up the midfield and Duncan Wright came on wide right with Keir going up front to replace Ross Young.
All in all a good performance without truly finding top gear and levels of concentration will need to be maintained for 90 minutes.
Thank you to David Robison and his Annan boys for a enjoyable and game, and also John Coyle the referee for his handling of the game.
