When the name Greystone Rovers is mentioned, the name Johnny Wallace is synonymous with the Club. Having been associated with the Club through its entire existence is no mean feat when one considers the hard times in which it was started. John has been a player, manager, secretary/treasurer, and is presently chairman. No one is more conscious than him that good guidance from the top is a fair account of Greystone Rovers achievements over the years and John Wallace has certainly played his part. In recognition of his services to youth football, he was made a life member of the Scoftish Amateur Football Association at Hampden Park, Glasgow this year. Now retired, Johnny still shows the same enthusiasm for the name, Greystone Rovers, as it if were 1938. The tours to Norway and the reciprocal tours to Scotland by the Norwegians are proof of his love of Greystone and their ability to do well, not only locally, but internationally. A strong disciplinarian, John Wallace has proved over the years that a good grounding is part and parcel of the success this man has achieved with Greystone Rovers. A great number of boys in the last bO years owe a great deal to him for helping to give them a taste of competitive football and the chance to visit another country thereby broadening their viewpoint on life. |
